Biology Honors Project Reflection
In part one I had the most trouble completing it because I had to learn how to make a website first and use all the tools to make each page. I also had trouble trying to put my drawings of the organism on the website. In order to do that I had to be at home and use the printer to scan it on to the computer then transfer it to my website. There were only two days out of the week that my dad could help me on the project because he had to work the other nights, that’s why I tried to do as much as possible at school. Another difficult part was the sources cited. I could not figure out how to put the sources cited in MLA format. Some of the positives from this part were that I turned it in on time and did all of the sections that were required. My dad and I were disappointed with the grade I received, because I put a lot of effort into this project.
In part two, I had some trouble but not as much as the first part. Most of my questions were about the diffusion out of the cell aspect of my organism. In this section, I went to my teacher after I finished making sure that everything was up to par. I had fixed all things she told me to fix and yet I got another low, disappointing grade. Afterwards I reviewed what I did wrong and it turned out I completely missed a section. I had skipped the DNA replication, I completely forgot and that hurt my grade.
Part three was the easiest for me because the material in it had made the most sense. The punnet squares were the easiest so I did those first and then I did the genotype and the phenotype for the squares. After confirming with Mrs. Hall to make sure that I had everything properly completed I submitted it. Again I got another low grade but it was the highest grade of the other four parts to this point.
Part four was another easy section because there was not that much to do. Right after I learned how to do the cladogram, I went to 4th period, my curriculum assistance class and got that done along with the adaptations and kingdom sections. The human activity was the easiest because most people know how we interact with clams, we consume them. After that was the behavior and symbiotic relationship. The symbiotic relationship was the clam’s ability to clean the ocean.
Part five got on my nerves because I had to do it on the last weekend of winter break. I was unable to complete it earlier because I was working with my dad and my sleep schedule got totally messed up. Having to do the last section in a short period of time was a struggle having since I had limited help. This was especially hard because I had forgotten the material we went over on the last couple of days before the break. The easiest portion of part four was drawing the pictures of the food chain and food web.
Before I started this project I didn’t know much about clams. All I thought they did was lie on the ocean floor and do nothing. While doing this project, I learned a lot of interesting facts about the clam. I learned that they don’t just sit around all day and do nothing. They do some important things not only for other sea creatures, but for the ecosystem of the ocean as well. This is why I enjoyed doing this project, because I learn all of the cool facts about the clam.
